High-quality dental technology in an international course – Russian speaking participants from 5 different nations

It has already become a tradition at the academia • dental to hold the courses in Russian language. In August 2004, dental technicians from Russia, the Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan got together during such a course again. For most of the participants it was an excursion into a new world, but for others it had already been the fourth training they had by BEGO so far. Some of the guests had to take great pains to be able to attend the course. Some reported that they had to wait up to 11 hours at the Ukrainian-Polish frontier, others had long and exhausting flights from Sachalin at the Japanese border. During the four-weeks-stay in Bremen, the course participants were welcomed and supervised by a team of qualified course instructors.

The requirements for participation in training courses at the academia • dental are clearly defined: Apart from a qualified education as a dental technician, working experience of several years in the field of crown and bridge technique is highly important. Following the requests of the official German dental technician master exam, the aim of the course was challenging: A high-quality combined maxilla prosthesis had to be made on the working models prepared by the academia • dental. The situation comprised a bridge that had to be provided with ceramic veneering. One abutment was supplied with a stress distribution arm in conjunction with the extracoronal attachment BEGO EasyLift. Furthermore a groove-shoulder/RS attachment with composite veneering had to be constructed. A BEGO-SEMADOS®-Implant was integrated and provided with a full telescope. The major connector of WIRONIUM® extra hard was fixed with a secondary frame through a bonding joint as well as a laser welded junction. The SAM 2 was used as articulator facilitating precise working, among other things on the base of an artificial gingival mask. Complex wax up and set-up have become standard meanwhile. Furthermore, each participant made a precision base for milling. The forming of the masticatory surface followed gnathological aspects.

Ralf Deselaers, a master dental technician who also gives courses at various German dental technician master schools, was supervising the milling technique part. Jürgen Schultze, an experienced specialist in the field of modelling and morphology, is a BEGO employee of many years’ standing and has joined the academia • dental from the start. However, the most difficult part had to be fulfilled by course instructor Olga Marbach who not only imparted metal ceramic topics to the participants, but also translated non-stop into the Russian language during the four weeks of the course.
In 2005, apart from courses held in English, further courses in Russian are planned. The academia • dental is receiving inquiries from all over the world. The concept of the academia • dental is unique and enjoys an exclusive position worldwide. At BEGO, the academia • dental plays an important role. The academia • dental disposes of an own laboratory with facilities for the training of up to 18 participants. The instructor’s demonstrations are shown on a large screen. Spacious functional areas with modern equipment offer the best conditions for high-quality training.

For many of the participants the training in a foreign country required great financial efforts. Therefore the guests were glad about the nice and low priced accommodation at the Seamen’s Home. At this pension, the hosts are used to welcoming visitors from foreign countries and do their best to satisfy their guests. Common rooms and a fully equipped shared kitchen enable the guests to prepare their meals themselves and enjoy the company of their colleagues in the evenings.
